Tasks
Use a Task Action for something you can describe and complete in one step. Use a Task Note for work that needs several actions, reference material, decisions, or progress tracking.
| Your need | Where it belongs |
|---|---|
| Call a repair shop | An independent Action |
| Plan and complete a home repair | A Task Note with next actions |
| Attend an appointment at a fixed time | The daily schedule |
| Track a habit you have chosen | Daily quests in the daily note |
| Keep a reference checklist | An ordinary note checklist |
Capture work
Section titled “Capture work”Add an Action to call the repair shop tomorrow. There is no external deadline.Independent Actions are collected in monthly files under Tasks/Actions. Actions that advance an existing Task Note belong inside that note. A scheduled date says when you intend to act; a due date records a real deadline. Postponing an Action changes the existing entry instead of copying it into another day’s note.
For work with several steps, tell the agent what counts as done:
Create a Task Note for replacing my desk chair. It is complete when I have compared options, chosen one, and arranged delivery. I have not picked a start date. You can also use the bundled Task capture commands in Obsidian. Onboarding checks that those commands are available on your device.
Read the Task Board
Section titled “Read the Task Board”Task Notes appear on the board according to their stored status:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Backlog | Not started, without a planned start date |
| Planned | Not started, with a planned start date |
| In Progress | Started, or brought into the active view because its planned start is within two days |
| Done | The outcome has been completed |
The default board filters out some work planned more than a month ahead. If a future Task seems missing, use the board’s full view before creating another copy. Task Notes remain Markdown files; the board is a view of them.
Update what actually happened
Section titled “Update what actually happened”I called the repair shop today and booked a visit. Complete that Action and add the appointment to Friday's schedule. The repair Task itself is still open.An Action can be open, in progress, completed, or cancelled. Finishing an Action does not automatically complete the whole Task Note. Tell the agent when an outcome is finished or no longer needed so it can record the result accurately.
Required daily maintenance archives eligible completed Task Notes and maintains the active board. It leaves decisions requiring interpretation for review.
